Its primary objective is to reduce the risk of injury to children from tip-over incidents involving clothing storage units (CSUs), such as chests of drawers, dressers, and wardrobes. The standard places a particular focus on the safety of children under 5 years old.
1. Scope of Application
The standard applies to:
•Freestanding clothing storage units with a height of 27 inches (686 mm) or greater. This includes wardrobes, chests, drawers, door chests, and dressers.
The standard does not apply to:
•Bookcases, entertainment furniture, office furniture, dining room furniture, jewelry armories, under-bed drawer storage units, nightstands, built-in units, or clothing storage chests (as defined in ASTM F2598).
