The maximum permitted concentration for each of these substances is 0.1% (1000 ppm) by weight in homogeneous materials. These four substances were newly added to China's mandatory national standard GB 26572—2025 in August 2025.
Table 1. Key Information on the Four Restricted Phthalates
| Substance Abbr. | Full English Name | Common Application Areas | Health & Environmental Risks |
| DEHP | Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate | Wire & cable insulation, plastic casings, soft PVC components (e.g., some equipment grips or seals) | Endocrine disruptor; may affect reproductive and developmental systems; can leach from waste, polluting soil and water sources. |
| BBP | Benzyl butyl phthalate | Flooring materials, artificial leather, plastic parts in some electronics | Potential carcinogen; may affect liver and kidney; not easily degradable, accumulates in the environment. |
| DBP | Dibutyl phthalate | Inks, coatings, adhesives, electronic component encapsulation materials | May impair fertility; developmental toxin; toxic to aquatic life. |
| DIBP | Diisobutyl phthalate | Used as a substitute for DBP in some coatings, adhesives, and plastic products | Similar to DBP; reproductive toxicity and environmentally persistent. |
