Your Location:Home > Textile and footwear testingGB 30585-2024 "Safety Technical Specification for Children's Footwear" is a significant mandatory national standard in China, replacing the old GB 30585-2014. It will officially come into effect on June 1, 2025.The new standard applies to all types of footwear intended for wear by children and infants aged 14 and below, regardless of shoe size. This means:
•Removal of Shoe Size Limit: The previous restriction of "shoe size not larger than 250 mm" from the old standard has been deleted. Now, any footwear designed for children over 3 years old up to 14 years old must comply with the new standard, irrespective of foot length.
•Covers All Children's Footwear Types: The exception for "children's rubber shoes" from the old standard has been removed. Children's rubber shoes are now included within the scope. The standard covers all children's footwear products made from various materials.
The standard categorizes children's footwear into two types:
•Infant Footwear: Shoe size not larger than 170, generally intended for infants aged 3 and below.
•Children's Footwear: Shoe size larger than 170, generally intended for children over 3 years old up to 14 years old.
Key Revisions in Physical and Mechanical Safety Requirements:
1)Small Parts Requirements: Added testing for sharp points and edges on small parts afterthe tensile strength test. If hard materials break during testing, the fracture points must not produce sharp points or edges.
2)Deleted Items: The requirements for odor and steel shank have been removed from the standard and will be controlled by the product's execution standards instead.
Chemical Safety, a major focus of this revision, features stricter and more comprehensive requirements:
1)Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI): Limit changed from ≤10 mg/kg to ≤3 mg/kg.
2)Formaldehyde, Decomposable Carcinogenic Aromatic Amines: Added requirements for artificial leather and synthetic leather materials.
3)Total Heavy Metals:
•Lead (Pb): Limit changed from ≤100 mg/kg to ≤90 mg/kg.
•Arsenic (As): The limit for arsenic has been removed.
4)Phthalates: Added control for DIBP.
5)Newly Added Controls: Added controls for Tetrachlorophenol, Pentachlorophenol, and Short-Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (SCCP).
The main content of the new GB 30585-2024 standard is summarized in the table below:
