The FDA defines a Food Contact Substance (FCS) as a substance intended for use as a component of materials used in manufacturing, packing, packaging, transporting, or holding food, provided such use does not have any technical effect in the food.
Product Scope
Products typically covered include:
1.Appliances that come into contact with food, such as toasters, sandwich makers, and electric kettles.
2.Food storage items and kitchenware like tempered glass cutting boards and stainless steel utensils.
3.Tableware such as bowls, forks, knives, spoons, cups, and plates.
Tableware shipped to California must comply with the California Proposition 65 requirements (including food-contact parts, external decorations, and rim areas). Covered products include, but are not limited to:
•Glass and ceramic products used to store, contain, or serve food or beverages.
•Glass and ceramic products not in contact with food or beverages (daily-use items).
